Introducing Usha Kiran
Eye Hospital

Usha Kiran Eye Hospital is dedicated to providing exceptional eye care

Usha Kiran Eye Hospital (UKEH) was established in 1995 on a rented premise in Mysore, a tier 2 city in South India. With the objective to serve all sections of society , Dr. K.V. Ravishankar, FRCS (Edin), and Dr. Uma Ravishankar, FRCS (Edin), established Usha Kiran Charitable Trust (UKCT) in 1998 to provide free professional services to those unable to afford treatment
By 2005, UKEH expanded into a four-story building supported by G K Charities to enhance Ophthalmology services.
UKEH extends its services to underdeveloped countries like Bangladesh, Kenya, Nepal, Nigeria, The Gambia, and Zambia. While initially performing cataract surgeries, the focus has shifted towards children's surgeries due to a severe shortage of trained ophthalmologists in pediatric ophthalmology.

What are the symptoms of cataracts?

Cataracts can cause blurred vision, difficulty seeing at night, sensitivity to light, seeing halos around lights, and colors appearing faded. If you experience these symptoms, it is advisable to consult an eye specialist for evaluation and treatment.

How often should I have an eye exam?

Adults should have a comprehensive eye exam at least once every 1-2 years, especially if they have risk factors such as diabetes, high blood pressure, or a family history of eye diseases. Children should also have their eyes examined regularly to detect vision problems early.

What precautions should I take after cataract surgery?

After cataract surgery, avoid rubbing your eyes, lifting heavy objects, or engaging in strenuous activities for a few weeks. Use prescribed eye drops as directed and attend follow-up appointments to ensure proper healing.

Is LASIK surgery safe?

LASIK surgery is a safe and effective procedure for correcting refractive errors. While complications are rare, it is important to have a thorough evaluation by an experienced surgeon to ensure you are a suitable candidate for the procedure.
